As you can see, the 40-64 age group has the highest bars/population in comparison to the rest of the age groups. The cause of this is most likely because of the “baby boomers”. Baby boomers are born in the baby boom period, which is anyone born between the years 1946 and 1961. Between 1946 and 1961, families grew much larger than any other years. So what about it? There are advantages and disadvantages to this situation. We have many people out in the field working and helping with society, also known as the baby boomers. Jobs like doctors, teachers, construction workers... They all contribute to society one way or another. Once they retire, it gives an opportunity for a lot of the younger generations to replace them. It is going to be much easier for the younger ages to find a job compared to the crowded baby boomers. The bad part about this is that once the baby boomers age and retire, the dependency load would increase and so would our taxes. The dependency load is the part of our population who needs to be supported. For example, the elderly. Without jobs, they will have to depend more on society and taxes to get by. Perhaps we need to build more senior homes or hospitals to support them. When the baby boomers do retire, the dependency load will surely grow and as stated before, so will the taxes.
