The City of Vancouver is a coastal seaport city in British Columbia and has a population of 603,502 according to the 2011 population census. It is in the Pacific Maritime ecozone and with a size of 114 km2, Vancouver is currently the largest city in British Columbia. It is also the third largest census metropolitan area in Canada.
Brief History:
On April 26th, 2011, Vancouver celebrated its 125th birthday. It is said that William Van Horne, a navigator, selected the name Vancouver in 1887, naming it after a British Royal Navy English officer named George Vancouver. William rowed to what is now known as Stanley Park, exclaimed how the city is destined to be a great one and must have a name to match its greatness. In the end, he named the city Vancouver. Being one of the youngest city of Canada, the first European settlement wasn't until 1862, which was established near Fraser River. Vancouver has changed a lot over the years, and you can see the changes through the examples below. Like most cities, this place has progressed a long way and has improved for the better. With the help of technology, Vancouver has certainly built it’s way into making a great society.
(In my opinion, I find this really cool and interesting that there are pictures that compare Vancouver before and Vancouver now.)
